South Australia.com AIS' Teschner team bike

Australian born and bredThe SouthAustralia-AIS team has a brand new steed for 2007: the full carbon Euro Pro designed and built in Australia by Teschner Technologies. Naturally, the AIS riders are used to getting their hands on some pretty swanky equipment, but the Teschner's featherweight frame combined with exceptional stiffness has made it a firm favourite after just a few months of early season racing. "I really liked my previous bike, but this one is even better. It's lighter, and it fits me," commented team rider Shaun Higgerson after piloting his Euro Pro to victory in the Joseph Sunde Memorial Criterium at Sydney's Heffron Park. American manufacturer Easton continues the carbon theme with its EC70 seatpost while the team puts small weight savings aside for the reassurance of aluminium with Easton's EA70 bar and stem combination. The anatomically shaped bars are wrapped up in super comfy Easton bar tape to cushion the riders' hands throughout tens of thousands of racing and training kilometres on some of world's toughest bike racing terrain. When it comes to componentry there's little room for error and the team puts its trust in Shimano's Tour de France proven Dura-Ace ten speed groupset. The Japanese firm take care of everything from brakes and shift levers to cables and even a re-designed pedal system providing a bigger platform for power transfer. Wheels also come from Japan with riders getting the option of Shimano's very latest aluminium and scandium constructed clinchers or deep section carbon fibre tubulars. Sticking all this lot to the road requires some serious race proven rubber - luckily Vittoria's Corsa CX tyres and EVO tubulars provide world class grip in all manner of severe weather conditions. Obviously there's little point building a bike this good without logging how many kilometres you've racked up and that's where Cateye's 10-function Micro wireless computer proves invaluable. And finally, even pro bike riders have to fix their own punctures occasionally, with pumps provided by Blackburn and toolkits from Park Tool. |
